When should I bring my pet in?
This is important as you want your dog to fit in as quickly as possible, so they get their food for the day, they get the exercise and time to meet the other dogs there
ask about any dogs when boarding kennel will be closed such as public holidays.
A well prepared baording kennel will offer a pick up and delivery service which will ease both your stress and your dog’s stress.
What time do you feed the guests?
Not every dog has just one meal a day, so please let the boarding kennel know if your do receives two meals a day.
if the boading kennels feed all their dogs in the morning and you feed you dog in the evening; you may want to change your dogs routine before they go to the boarding kennel.
What do I need to bring for my pet?
Reputable Pet Accommodation Facilities will ask for the current vaccination certificate.
For the comfort and safety of all, please bring your dog on a lead and to bring any medication your pet is on, as well as instructions which your vet may have been given.
Can I bring my pet’s own diet/food ?
When the Pet accommodation / boarding kennel, allows you to bring your dog’s own special diet food, then this will make it easier for your dog to fit in and enjoy their stay more.
Can I bring my dog’s coat?
If your pet is a short haired dog, then they may be used to wearing a coat so that they keep warm. Boarding kennels should not have any problem accepting your coat provided the coat is clearly and permanently labelled.
Can I bring my pet’s favourite toys and bedding?
To make your pet feel more at home the pet accommodation most likely will allow 1 toy and 1 piece of bedding to accompany your cat or dog. Please make sure that they are labelled and named.
NOTE : Your pet’s extra special toy should be left at home, as it will be a pleasant surprise for them on returning.
What happens if my pet gets sick?
The boarding kennel should have access to a vet whom they are familiar with; however you should provide the contact information of your vet so that the Pet Accommodation can get the medical history. If it is an emergency or distance becomes an issue the pet accommodation will normally have have access to a 24 hour vet hospital and the vet can communicate with yours if necessary.
What is Canine Cough?
Canine or Kennel Cough is one of the most common respiratory illnesses in dogs. It is very similar to the common cold in humans. Any one of a variety of different germs can cause it. It is very contagious and in the vast majority of cases relatively harmless.
What Vaccinations doe my Dog need
Dogs can become infected with Canine Cough wherever they gather, such as in parks, obedience classes, dog shows, vet surgeries or kennels. They can even contact it if they are at home. To prevent against getting Canine Cough or Kennel cough; your dog should be vaccinated with the C5 Vaccination. If the Pet Accommodation does not insist on C5 vaccination at a minimum then stay away from this Boarding kennel
What time can I pick up my pet?
If there is any routine; you will want to make sure that you fit into the boarding kennel routine, and that there is someone there to help pick up your dog. Ask if the Boarding kennel offers a delivery service and how often does the delivery service run; and which areas is the delivery service active in. All this helps make your holiday easier and less stressful.
What should I do when I take my pet home?
Allow your pet to find that “at home” feeling again before letting them out of the house. Just as your pet had to adjust to the pet accommodation, so will it have to adjust to being home again.
Your dog will be very excited to see you. (They do not have a sense of time – 5 minutes or 5 days – there is no difference).
After the initial excitement your dog may sleep for some time. Like you, pets can come home from their holiday tired.
